Who We Are
CREATIVE HEALTH PROJECT

We are an international community health team consisting of researchers from Fukushima Medical University, Koriyama Women’s University, Kagoshima University, and collaborating organizations. We run participatory research aiming to improve the health literacy skills of children and young people in disaster-prone and disaster-vulnerable countries in Asia and Africa, namely, Japan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Rwanda.
By combining medical, nutritional, and arts activities, our “Creative Health” program uses a participatory approach to children’s health and education, and strengthens their roles in the community. In this program, children will be encouraged to lead these learning activities and practice new health promotion skills in their community. Local university students take the initiative (under the guidance of university faculty) to develop teaching tools and structure workshops.
Through the program’s implementation, qualitative data, as well as numeric, text, and visual forms of data, are garnered from children, young people, and adults participating in the workshops, then analyzed and triangulated in order to seek ways to improve the health and community engagement of our next generation. We will develop a “university-community collaboration manual for implementing Creative Health” as the final output of the project so that the program can be disseminated and implemented in much wider regions.
